The ORIGINAL WAGON BUILDER'S LEDGER maintained by Joel and Samuel Davis of the Davis Family, Brookhaven, Suffolk County Long Island, New York between the years 1800 and 1833. This well preserved ledger, which is legibly written in brown ink, measures 14" tall by 9" wide. It is bound in parchment and it is in excellent condition, noting that some of the first pages are loose, but intact. All manner of work provided are included including carpentry and many farm accounts. Joel Davis, born in 1776, began the book when he was aged 22. The book includes a listing of New York Bank Accounts, compiled in the 1790's that likely antedated the use of this book by Joel Davis. All manner of local names are listed including William Hutchins, Daniel Bogart, Henry Titus, John Roe, Titus Conklin and many, many more. There are several pages devoted to penmanship practice and interesting entries throughout. An interesting snapshot of life in rural Long Island, New York in the first quarter of the Nineteenth Century. From the Collection of Dave Englund, Seattle, Washington. | |

A most interesting and unusual EARLY PATENT JOINTER PLANE as patented by George Buckel of Detroit, Michigan on August 25, 1868. According to the U.S. Patent specifications, this plane was intended to have an adjustable throat released by the brass fitting on the top of the plane, but it has been modified in some way to make the throat fixed in place.
